VISITORS FROM SYROS
On Sunday 28th August we were delighted to welcome a group of 40 young people from the predominantly Catholic island of Syros at morning Mass in St Francis. They were accompanied by some of ther teachers and their priest, Fr Niko, from the Cathedral Parish in Syros. It was a great pleasure to see so many happy-faced young Catholics, and their participation in the Mass greatly added to its spiritual beauty. Afterwards they were invited to join the parishioners in the monastery refectory for refreshments, where Fr Luke spoke to them briefly about the Franciscan presence in Rhodes and gave them each a gift of his little book about St Francis which was published last year. The youngsters then entertained us with a song of praise in Greek which set feet tapping and hands clapping. We will remember this visit with great pleasure and hope that we do not have to wait long for it to be repeated.
